Saria scanned the bright and eager eyes that stood around her. Seeing the excitement this group possessed for her lessons filled her with a renewed confidence. The group wasn’t particularly large. Out of the 200 Kokiri in the village, including herself now that Yorrel was no longer with them, only being about a third of the village. Even so, they still held an important role. As these were the ones who wished to learn the art of magic.
They stood in a clearing in the Lost Woods, herself atop a tree stump…Not that she needed it to have presence with them. She had chosen this spot so as to not disturb those in the village who were off doing other duties at the moment. Perhaps training with Axel and Chase. After all, in harnessing one’s inner magic for the first time, one needed to be able to focus. She had explained as much when gathering them all up, though not many of them seemed to get it. They soon would though. It was time for them to stop living the lie that everything came so easy.
Still… Things were looking pretty promising so far. Her students all waited in anticipation for her to begin. As she opened her mouth to speak, however, the green glowing ball of light that was her fairy then flew in front of her. “ALRIGHT MAGGOTS. LET ME MAKE MYSELF CLEAR. WE ARE UNDER ABSOLUTELY NO OBLIGATION TO DO THIS! YOU ALL LISTEN TO WHAT SARIA HAS TO SAY, OR YOU CAN GO HOME!” the fairy yelled with all the tact and grace of a deku scrub. Saria looked on wide-eyed as her companion did this, before groaning…She shouldn’t be so surprised, really.
Of course, this certainly upset the balance that had been in place. Now her students, taken aback by the claims, reacted variably. On one spectrum, some of them were now angrily shouting at Gate with their fairies trying to calm them. On another, some of the more fragile Kokiri were already beginning to choke, tears forming as their faeries began to comfort them. Finally, some faeries were angrily voicing their thoughts to Gate, as their Kokiri tried to soothe their anger.
“ENOUGH.” Saria finally shouted before the chaos got too out of control. That shut them all up, as they once again looked to her attentively. Saria was known for hardly ever raising her voice like that. She could be stern when reprimanding one of them for doing something wrong, but for her to shout as she just did…They knew that must have truly irked her.
“Now…” she began, turning to Gate. “That was uncalled for, Gate. Please don’t interrupt again.” She told the fairy, displaying her reputation then and there. In turn, the fairy gave an undignified huff. She then looked back to her new students. “Now…While I don’t agree with how that was worded, Gate does have a point. I’m doing this for your benefit. So that we have better chances of no one else befalling a fate like Yorrel due to inability…If you don’t wish to work for this, then leave now.”
She looked to them all expectantly, none voicing any complaints to that. She couldn’t help but smile as she then began. “Very well…Now…Before we begin, it must be said that despite all my years, I am still training to hone my magic as well. It is a cycle that never truly ends.” She wanted to say more…About her abilities as the Forest’s Sage, and the magic she had enchanted her beloved Ocarina with…But she still didn’t feel they were quite ready for that yet. “I have been working on spells for a while…And I’m still learning…But there is only one that I’m confident enough in to use as an example…” she looked to her hand for a moment, before back to them. “Are any of you injured in any way? Please step forward.”
It took a moment, but soon a girl approached her. One of the younger members of the village. She recognized this girl as Wynn…She’d been particularly close with Yorrel… “Well…I…scraped my knee earlier…Its not serious, but…” she was obviously terrified, speaking before everyone. Saria only gave a brief nod, stepping off of the stump, approaching her. She gently placed a hand on her shoulder, before looking the girl’s knee. “You’re right, Wynn…It’s not serious…But even still…This spell is currently only for minor wounds.”
She then bent down, holding her hand out to the cut. She closed her eyes, as the magic began to flow around her hand, green energy forming into what appeared to be a green flower bud. Suddenly the magic began to release what appeared to be spores, flowing out towards it. And just like that, the wound began to close, as Wynn and all the rest gasped in shock.
Saria then stood again, announcing “It’s by no means perfect…It only completely heals minor injuries like that…But that’s why I wish to improve as well. So we can all properly defend ourselves. We are going to begin meeting here every other day and work on focusing our energies to form our spells.” She scanned them all. “In the meantime, think of what you wish to do for it. So long as its in reason, there are many choices to be had.” She closed, before noticing they were hesitant to leave. “You mean we’re not starting today?” Wynn asked hopefully.
Now this really caught her off guard. They DID want to learn. “Well we can if you like.” She stated, suddenly raising all of their spirits. She couldn’t help but giggle at that. “Alright…In that case…I want you all to close your eyes…And tell me what you feel…” she stated, beginning to lead by example, the rest following suit…As they began new lives.
