King Galadhion Untitled-2_1
Personality: Galadhion is known for his stoic, extremely intelligent, and calculating demeanor, but also his cold, manipulative, and often unfettered attitude, even for his family. While he often shows a sheltering, overprotective expression for his only son, the only person he held any deep sentiment towards was his late wife Esmeras, having died giving birth to their son. Though he never admits to it, people have often said that he blames the death of his wife on him, though he claims to love Perseus dearly. He lived in atonement with nature, wearing a crown of flowers, or autumn berries because of his deep involvement with it. He loved the forest though it was dark and dangerous in many parts and enjoyed hunting and feasting among the trees with his people. He was also distrustful of strangers, being mostly unconcerned with affairs of the world beyond Labrynna unless a common enemy was shared.

Galadhion insists that all he does is for the sake of his family. Galadhion's own father Lannis had always favored the younger son, Arathor, and therefore Galadhion had never gotten the attention he had craved as a child, causing him to be very prideful in Perseus’s achievements and somewhat suffocating in his wellbeing. His intentions were to make Perseus the perfect son--the perfect heir to the throne. What little relationship Galadhion may have had with Perseus was destroyed when Galadhion had demanded that he was never to leave the castle and made all of his decisions for his adulthood at such a young age. Galadhion wanted to force a marriage-alliance to benefit their family's line and their spread of power, and he was offended that Perseus, despite his love for the woman he is yet to marry, would risk ending it after he was accused of having them marry for the wrong reason. The hypocrisy in this is that Galadhion himself married for love when he married Esmeras, a young woman who was daughter of a duke in Symmetry City, instead of entering into a marriage-alliance with another more powerful noble family.

Galadhion possesses a very conservative, patrician set of social values, in which women are suited to securing marriage-alliances and little else, not wielding power on their own. Thus in contrast to Hyrule, in which female members of the family are trained in ruling and court intrigue as much as the men are. This creates a tension for the alliance since Galadhion’s intentions for marrying off Perseus is to have him take over as King when Zelda receives coronation. The only way that Perseus would ever be in rule though, is if something were to happen to her.

Despite his manipulative and calculating nature, Galadhion is shown to have a good side if he is impressed with someone. He still treats his people fairly and is well respected among them and will always make sure that his kingdom is thriving. He is very suspicious of Holodrum and refuses to do any trade with them because of the ongoing feud that has lasted for over a thousand years. While he does hold an alliance with Hyrule and cared dearly for his friend, the King Daphnes, he worries more about his own political affairs more than anything and wishes for nothing, but to continue his line.

As of late, Galadhion has been much more greedy and making decisions that are in his best interests from a power standpoint. He refuses to let his advisers make decisions without his approval and is incredibly stubborn, unwilling to change the way he does business or make exceptions for those who need them or qualify.

Likes: Power, Nature, Swordsmanship
Dislikes: Holodrum, Competition, Disobedience
Motivations:
+Power - Galadhion is motivated by power. He believes that for as long as he is alive, power will always come easily to him. He fights to keep it and will do anything he can to make sure that nothing gets in his way.
+Family - Because he has lost most that are close to him, Galadhion is very protective of his only son, Prince Perseus. He fears that if something happens to him, that his line will end and he cannot bare the thought of it.
Fears:
+End of the Royal Line - He fears his line will end and there will no longer be a legacy for his family. He does not want a common man taking his place on the throne, had something happened to him or Perseus.
+Labrynna Overthrown - Perseus fears that the other kingdoms are collectively discussing on how to overthrow Labrynna due to his paranoid nature. Because of this, he takes security measures as highly as possible, questioning all who try to pass through if they are not citizens of the kingdom. He also sends out spies to the other Kingdoms to see if his paranoid accusations are being followed through with.

History:
King Galadhion Thrand11

Galadhion was one of two children born to former King Lannis and Queen Ursa of Labrynna. Being the older brother of Prince Arathor, he constantly lived in the shadow of a prodigy despite being the heir to the throne. Growing up, it was known that Galadhion would be next in line for the crown, but Arathor had constantly stolen the spotlight from him for as long as he could remember. Arathor was very quick to learning and was known as a prodigy in the art of the sword. Despite their gap in their skills, Arathor looked up to Galadhion and always talked proudly of him.

Galadhion's father barely took interest in the elder son, despite his planned future. He was much too proud of Arathor and his respectable talents. Galadhion became unmotivated and very jealous of his younger brother, though his mother was always there to comfort them. The two were very close and she was his only support system. This went on for many years, until one day, Galadhion had found out something very disappointing. His father was so enticed by Arathor's skills that he had ecided to override the firstborn rule and have Arathor crowned instead.

Very paranoid and upset with his father's plans, Galadhion started to drive himself insane to the thought of losing the one thing that he had planned for his adulthood. He couldn't bear the idea of living in his younger brother's shadow for the rest of his life. When Galadhion was 16 and Arathor 12, he had decided that he had to do what was best for his future and have something terrible happen to his brother, accidentally or not.

Galadhion had taken Arathor with him on an adventure through the Fairies' Woods. Tricking him to go deep into the woods with him, he made sure that his brother was caught off guard while he then killed him and returned, acting as though he was murdered by bandits. While Galadhion truly felt guilt for his actions, he was too afraid of living in the shadow to let his better judgment get the best of him. Now being the only son to be the heir, he had nothing to worry about and no one even suspected he was behind the murder of his brother.

Galadhion took the throne after his father had passed away of sickness. His mother had died only several months after the death of Arathor. Being King, he then had to be wed and have a queen. Though she was not a princess of another land, she was ruler of Sunken City. Her name was Princess Esmeras. Galadhion had fell in love with her immediately and the two of them married. Only a year after their marriage, Esmeras was expecting a child.

King Galadhion The_lo11

Queen Esmaras had been very ill with an unknown disease, and though many remedies and prayers had been given, there seemed to be no hope for the young woman. Galadhion became very reserved and depressed in the inevitable fate of his beloved wife. When a raging storm had come over the Labrynnan coast - a sign that death would come to haunt the living, the Queen went into labor. Frantic, many doctors rushed to the scene as they saw that she was not properly dilated to deliver a child. They had to perform a cesarean section or else the child would either die or have serious injury.

As soon as the child was released from the womb, Queen Esmeras had passed away, and in her sickness, she had passed on the disease to her child. Perseus was born silently. No tears, no screaming, barely even a breath of life. Galadhion was desperate, not able to bear the idea of losing two loved ones in one night, so he had arranged a carriage to head to the sacred springs. With babe in arms, the King rushed over, setting the child in the pool of water, watching the life slowly leave his eyes.

As if out of nowhere, the raging storm had halted, the weather becoming calm with a light drizzle and fog. The pool of water around the child began to glow, and the Sage of the Forest appeared before him, blessing the child with life. Perseus began to cry and was very healthy.

King Galadhion The_lo12

With such a close call in losing his entire line of blood, Galadhion became very reserved and protective of his only child. He had made arrangements for Perseus to be taught within the castle, never allowed to even leave the outer gardens into the city.  The only time that Galadhion had ever allowed Perseus outside the city was when the two had traveled to Hyrule to meet with King Daphnes. Discussing terms of alliance, the two Kings had then ultimately decided that it would be in their best interest to have Prince Perseus and Princess Zelda marry when they came of age.

Until Perseus's adulthood, Galadhion sheltered him to the best of his ability. He was not allowed to ever leave the castle or make large decisions for himself. Due to this, their relationship is rather cast off and the two did not often agree on things. Perseus became rather defiant and this angered the King, causing them to become even more distant. The King now spends most of his time cooped up in his castle, though he sometimes ventures out when he needs time to get away. After the King had passed away, it was just one more person he had lost in his life and he found himself unable to even come to the funeral ceremony.

It was just like when they were kids - the two of them would wander off if their parents weren't looking and they'd find themselves deep in the woods, playing the rolls of bandits and soldiers. They never had a care in the world - at least until they got caught. That was always the worst part about it though... whenever they did, Arathor never got in trouble. It was always the elder son's fault. "How could you disobey us like this!?" their father would always start. "You could have gotten your younger brother killed!" Of course, father never seemed to express any bit of concern for the well being of Galadhion - it was always whether or not Arathor was okay. This absolutely infuriated him.

Arathor was still a kid - not a young one, but he still wasn't old enough to make his own decisions. The boy was only twelve, and he was still Galadhion's responsibility. Maybe just one last time, he thought. If he could just get him to go in the woods one last time... then all of his problems would go away. Of course Arathor was excited when his older brother had asked him to go on an adventure with him. Galadhion was 16 now - too old to care about childish things. Arathor had always wondered why his brother had become so distant after time, so of course he would take up the offer to explore with him. If only he knew.

For the most part, Galadhion was quiet. The entire walk was much longer than he remembered it. Maybe it was because he was having a hard time focus, or because of the fact that he knew that this would be the last time he ever were to walk these paths again with his brother at his side. All he knew was that he had to go through with it or he would lose everything. It was either that or his brother, and he chose the latter. Once he had decided that the two of them were far enough away from Lynna City and that no one had followed them, he had stopped in his tracks and took a deep breath.

"Are you ready, Thor?" Galadhion smiled lightly as he turned to his brother. "What do you want to do?" Arathor looked around quietly and then smiled back. "I want to play Soldiers and Bandits. You can be the bandit!" Of course, Galadhion chuckled and rolled his eyes playfully. "Aren't you a bit old for that game?"

"I mean, I guess, but it'd be nice to pretend like we were little again for once. Just one last time before the responsibilities kick in for the both of us..." Arathor's smile faltered. "Father is expecting so much from us now, and I just want to forget about it for a little bit."

Galadhion could feel his chest tightening a bit as he heard these words, but he remained calm and nodded. "Yeah, I guess... alright. We can play that. Go hide, I'll count to 20." Arathor smiled brightly, nodding as he then sped off the path and into the thick row of trees. Swallowing hard, Galadhion closed his eyes... his mind beginning to wander as he began to count. "One... two... three..."

He had to do this. He couldn't let his emotions get the best of him now. If he didn't, the rest of his life would forever just be a shadow, something that never was. Four, five, six... But this was his brother. His little brother who looked up to him like he was the world. He had never seen him more excited than he was today. Maybe if he had stopped avoiding him so much, things would be different. Seven... eight... nine... ten...

They used to play this game so much. With toy weapons, or bows without arrows... and at first, Galadhion always let Arathor win. Then he began to show so much more talent than Galadhion, and Arathor could see that. Then the tables turned, and Arathor would pretend to die instead. Oh why can't I just pretend he's dead, just this time...

Eleven... twelve... thirteen... fourteen... The quicker he went through with it, the easier it was. At least that way, maybe his brother wouldn't see it coming. He wouldn't know it was him who did it. He wouldn't have to see the look on his face. Fifteen, sixteen, seventeen... It was almost done. He could do this. Eighteen... nineteen... "Twenty."

Opening his eyes, Galadhion sped in the direction of where his brother had went, looking around quietly, listening and using the forest as his aid. Any disruptions would give him an answer... of course he had a hunch of where he might be. There was a river off to the side, and as  he looked toward it, he saw a large shrub to the side of it... and a set of footprints. Taking a deep breath, Galadhion quietly approached it, stepping toward it and he could see his brother's long blonde hair slightly escaping from behind the leaves.

Do it now and he won't even know. Pulling out his bow, he took an arrow, stretching it back across the string as he slowly approached Arathor, being as quiet as possible. He held it there for a long moment, mentally preparing himself to release.

Arathor looked back, the smile on his face slowly faltering as his eyes grew small. He slowly stood up, the hurt painting over his face as he felt his lip quiver in an attempt to speak. "So this is why you brought me here...?" he murmured. "Just shut up, Arathor," Galadhion snapped, his voice quivering as he held the arrow in place. "I have to do this!"

Arathor swallowed hard, shifting his weight between his feet. "You don't have to... Galadhion, I swear you don't have to..." he slowly put his hands up. "I'll say I don't want to be King, if that's what you want! I swear I can fix this..."

Galadhion bit his lip, trying to keep a straight face, though his voice failed him in a falter. "There is nothing you can do now. Father has already made his decision. You have to die."

Arathor huffed out a nervous breath, shaking his head as he went to take a step forward, "Galadhion, please--"

Releasing his hand from the arrow, it immediately shot through Arathor's heart, sending him back several feet until he had fallen into the river. Wide eyed and without a word, he slammed into the bottom of it, a pool of blood forming around him as his body was then slowly lifted from the current, flowing down and away without a word. Maybe he's just pretending to be dead like he used to...

But he wasn't. Dropping the bow, Galadhion could feel his knees shaking, a single tear sliding down his face as he shuddered to himself, turning and walking toward the path. Now he needed to make a believable story. Taking another arrow from his quiver, he held it in one hand, looking down at his side as he immediately shoved in, making sure not to hit any vitals as he growled in pain loudly.

******

"FATHER!" Galadhion burst through the castle doors, his hair knatted, face covered in dirt, and blood dripping down his side from where the arrow was. "Father, please--" he fell to his knees at the bottom of the stairs that lead to the throne. His father immediately stood up in a shock, stepping forward quickly as he looked to his adviser, nodding for a doctor.

"What is it, my son?" he spoke quickly. "What happened? Why are you bleeding??"

"I tried to go after him--" Galadhion cried. "Arathor had left the castle--he said he didn't want to be King anymore and tried to run away--I tried to go after him, but..." he stopped, huffing out an anxious breath as he began to cry. "A group of bandits attacked us and..."

"And? And?!" Lannis's voice became frantic.

"T-They killed him..." Galadhion's voice cracked as he pushed his hands into the floor, burying his face between his arms as he started to sob.

"No... no, no..." Lannis murmured, shaking his head as he looked around in disbelief, his face going white. "NO!"

"NO!"
